Hey guys! It’s Friday!
Time for another LONG awaited lol, My Happy Playlist.
So this week I’ve been really into:
1. We Are Young – Fun feat. Janelle Monae
I first heard this song on Glee and I was like I know this song, I should know this song…but I didn’t know the song. Then YouTube was promoting it and I watched the video but I thought the video was so weird and not what I thought the video would be about at all. Finally I heard it on the radio and started singing along, it got stuck in my head and the rest is history.
2. Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You) – Kelly Clarkson
I first heard this song on a NOW That’s What I Call Music ad and I was singing along like I knew so, maybe that wasn’t the first time, or maybe it’s one of those one listen and you’re hooked songs. Either ways I loved it, I looked it up on YouTube and the video was so fun, I just had to have it. Makes me smile all the time.
3. Give Me Love – Ed Sheeran
I believe it played in the ball scene in Vampire Diaries, season 3 but I fell in love with it watching a fan video with the song. Then I fell in love with the lyrics. Oh, how I love hearing it, makes we want love indeed especially with all the Vampire Diaries hotties. Swooon!
4. Call Me, Maybe – Carly Rae Jepsen
Apparently this song is a hit and has been sweeping the nation by storm with endorsement from the Biebs himself but the first time I heard it was when Guy Ross interviewed her on NPR’s All Things Considered Weekends podcast. They played it in the background, she explained her inspiration, i.e. her boyfriend and I immediately went and looked it up on YouTube, it’s been a fav ever since, such a catchy song. The video is hilarious and twist at the end, lol. It’s gone so viral a bunch of celebs did parody videos on it, I like the one Selena, Justin, Ashley Tisdale and a bunch of their friends did, hilarious.
5. A Thousand Years – Christina Perri
I don’t even know where I heard this, probably one of my friends made me listen to it, but at any rate I love it, so slow and heart wrenching, makes me think. The video is….there, like she’s just walking slowly and singing, there really is nothing special about it. I’ve been told its in the Twilight movies, that won’t make me watch ‘em but if that makes you want to listen to the song, all the better.
Well that’s what’s been helping me move my feet this week.
What about you, what are your favourite songs this week?
Let me know in the comments below.
Happy listening!

I recently watched Model Behavior and Starstruck and realized just how much movies influence my music choices and how easily they bring me back to the era in which the movie was made.
Let me explain.
Movies introduce me to a lot of songs that I might not have heard otherwise.
For instance Cruel Intentions introduced me to Bittersweet Symphony by The Verve which is one of my all favourite songs….the movie too and Model Behavior introduced me to Hello World by Belle Perez.
Also movies are normally steeped in the time period in which the movie takes place and hence solves the problem of time travel.
If I want to return to my favourite decade, the 90s all I need is a good 90s movie such as Model Behavior.
The fashion, the slangs, the trends of the era are all there. And it makes me happy, it allows me to enjoy what I miss about it.
The crazy hairstyles, the brightly coloured and patterned pants, the belly bearing tops and the fun of the 90s are all there for my enjoyment.
Music videos and books help conjure up the past as well so definitely check those out if you feel like time travelling today.
So that brings me to my top songs of last week, which just happen to be movie inspired.
1. Something About The Sunshine – Anna Margaret
2. Hero – Sterling Knight (Christopher Wilde)
3. Hello World – Belle Perez
4. Let That Be Enough – Switchfoot
5. All The Same – Sick Puppies
Which one of your favourite songs was featured in a movie soundtrack? Let me know in the comments.

During the crazy study period of university only a few things can keep you sane, good friends, fun study sessions and a great playlist.
I tend to listen to music that I already love hence I won’t be paying any great attention to the words but more the beat.
In my first year I listened to Fallout Boy’s albums on repeat, in second year my bff chose our study music randomly and this year I’m listening to Drake‘s album Thank Me Later. Love it!
So my favourite songs of this week are:
1. Unforgettable – Drake feat. Young Jeezy
2. Thank Me Now – Drake
3. Up All Night – Drake feat. Nicki Minaj
4. Show Me A Good Time – Drake
5. Miss Me – Drake feat. Lil Wayne
Honorable Mentions
Over – Drake
The Resistance – Drake
Fireworks – Drake feat. Alicia Keys
So how do you choose your study music? Let me know and good luck on your finals!

Today would be Michael Jackson‘s birthday if he was still with us.
He’d be 52, but he died July 25, 2009.
I can still remember coming home, going on Facebook and seeing all the comments and status messages hoping, praying that he was still with us. I remember the bickering about whether he was dead or not. I remember the sadness when it was revealed that he was gone.
I remember all the award shows changing their plans and doing a Michael Jackson themed show or a tribute of some kind. I remember watching the funeral, I remember the radio stations playing his songs every day for months, I remember seeing his posters, his clothes, his memorabilia everywhere as everyone tried to hold on to a piece of him, a piece of legend.
I remember downloading all his albums the day he died, I remember watching all my favourite videos, I remember arguing the fact that his father, and the media frenzy that surrounded him was what made him so insecure and lonely. I remember saying we did this to him, he was just a little boy.
It’s been a year and some now since he died and I’m still sad he’s gone. I’m sad that I’ll never get to see him in concert and I’m sad there’ll be no more songs but I’m starting to let go. No, I’m not a crazed fan, just a lover of great music and Mike wasn’t just great he was legendary.
So every time I see someone in a MJ jacket or his silhouette painted somewhere I smile because he still lives on in our hearts.
So Happy Birthday Mike! You did great!
